Same specials, same happy hours, same events. Same good times.
If you frequent the RUC, you’re probably going to notice some changes happening over the next few months; and if you’re a regular, you might have seen some changes starting to happen already.
Canberra is growing and changing, and the RUC is evolving with it. Over the next 12 months, the RUC will embark on a refurbishment journey that will leave us with a bigger and more modern club in 2023.
We will be constructing a new outdoor deck area on the Haig Park side of the building, knocking down some walls to create bigger indoor areas, and refreshing the current fitout.
But don’t worry, we’re not moving anywhere and all your favourite things about the RUC will stay the same!
The RUC will be open the entire year (besides Christmas Day, as usual), with construction set to go ahead in phases to minimise disruptions to our patrons.
The main goals of our work will be to:
- Refresh the current fitout, without losing the existing character.
- Gain more space for members and guests.
- Build a bigger sports lounge.
- Build new toilets and a new deck area facing Haig Park.
As part of these works, there will be new furniture, fixtures, and fittings. However, it will still be recognisable as the same RUC with the same member’s specials, happy hours, and events.
The first stage of construction started in mid-April 2022 and will focus on ‘back-of-house’ areas including the ladies’ function room toilets. During this time, temporary toilets will be available.
The Club will be operational all the way through the refurbishments, with boardings in place and builders on-site. Construction will pause for November and December to allow for our busiest time of the year.
This is an exciting journey for all of us at the RUC. We hope you’re just as excited to come along for the ride, and we can’t wait to show you what the Club will look like this time next year.
