Each year we are lucky enough to support local teams around the ACT. The RUC sponsors local sporting clubs in an effort to help provide better outcomes for our community. We sat down with some of the teams – ANU Cheerleading Club, ANU Cricket Club, and the Belconnen United Sharks Juniors and chatted about their season highlights, club goals for next year, and different ways sponsorship can support the team.
ANU Cheerleading Club
The ANU Cheerleading Club was lucky enough to participate in two competitions for the 2023 season, across Cheer Con World Experience and Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation NSW ACT State Championships. Their Celestial team, which is their stunt team, placed first in both of these competitions which is a tremendous achievement! The Sapphire team, who are their pom team that focuses on the dance aspect of cheerleading came first in the high kick category for the Australian All-Star Cheer Federation NSW ACT State Championships.
“The RUC’s support this year has meant a great deal to the club and has helped our athletes by reducing fees, payment for coaches, gym hire, and purchasing new training shirts”
Carol, ANU Cheerleading Club
All ANU Cheerleading athletes are students who work to support their daily lives while studying, so receiving sponsorship has been beneficial in reducing costs for training and competing.
We love having the team enjoy club bonding sessions at the RUC for a friendly (but quietly competitive) game of lawn bowls together. We look forward to seeing what the 2024 season brings ANU Cheer.
ANU Cricket Club
ANU Cricket Club had a cracking year with four out of their six teams making the finals and just two teams missing out before grand final week.
This year the club had six teams, one female team and five male teams. RUC’s sponsorship helped towards coaching and refreshing the team’s uniform so everyone was looking and feeling their best on the pitch.
“We’re thankful for the RUC’s support for the 2023 season. We’re hoping to win a premiership next year and to bring our female team up to the first grade to showcase their talent while gaining exposure.”
Joe, ANU Cricket Club
As a club, they enjoyed end-of-season celebrations as a team with some lawn bowls whilst hooking into some drinks and pizzas to celebrate their achievement and end of cricket season.
Belconnen Sharks Club
Over the course of 2023, the Belconnen Sharks has increased their intake of players and are now proudly the largest junior rugby league club in Canberra. They were also proud to have three teams win in their grand final and have another three teams being the runners-up in the competition.
The Belconnen Sharks are a junior rugby league club in Canberra that focuses on developing strong sporting skills in rugby league for under 17-year-olds. Through RUC’s support, the club treated the team to new water bottles to use across training and games.
The Belconnen Sharks are involved with the RUC outside of sponsorship and conduct their meetings at our club and have their adults participate in hosting 2UP for ANZAC Day.
“The Sharkies plan on coming to the RUC as a club now the weather has warmed up to play a friendly game of lawn bowls. We’re super grateful for the RUC’s continuous support and look forward to the 2024 season. We plan to focus on building up our teams and numbers and creating a space where young girls are keen to start their footy journey.”
Matt, Belconnen Sharks Club
