The start of March means many different things, the start of Autumn, Easter celebrations and most importantly, a big part of the sporting calendar is back! Whether you play for your local community sports club, spectate for your favourite team, or just go for the atmosphere, food and drink, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Local sport season is back this March
Anticipation is high for the fierce competition expected amongst the Canberra local community teams come this March.
The Uni-North Owls Rugby Union Club, Belconnen United Sharks Rugby League, and the Gungahlin Eagle Rugby Club are all set to make their mark this season. As these clubs’ dive into the season, we admire all those players, coaches, volunteers, and families that make Canberra sport possible.
Whether you play for your local community sports club or you’re cheering on your loved ones, everyone can get a thrill out of these great games.
Live sports you can watch on the big screen at the RUC
Live sport is part of our bread and butter at the RUC. We love everything about them, and we love when you enjoy the games at the club. We try to accommodate everyone, but where this is not possible, we show the biggest sporting games of the year including:
Super Rugby Pacific – ACT Brumbies
The ACT Brumbies finished relatively strong in the 2023 season and snagged 4th place. They have implemented a game plan during the off-season and have said getting into the semi-finals just isn’t good enough in 2024. They believe the trick to becoming the best is getting big wins against the Kiwi sides early in the competition, before wrapping up with a home final game.
NRL Telstra Premiership – Canberra Raiders
Finishing in 8th place in 2023, the Raiders are coming back this season with a bang. The team has a lot of fresh faces, and they are heading into this season with a fire in their belly. One of the newest recruits for the Raiders is Zac Hosking, who comes from the 2023 premiership-winning team, the Penrith Panthers. We’re excited to see how the Raiders go this year and if they can lift the trophy and take all the glory.
Toyota AFL Premiership – GWS Giants
While the GWS Giants aren’t technically a Canberra team, they have a long-term partnership with Canberra, and this is set to continue through to at least 2032. Finishing the 2023 premiership in 7th place, the GWS Giants are looking to build onto their record-breaking run from last year where they fell short in the preliminary final against Collingwood by one point. The energy is high within the team, and they are ready to take this season to the next level.
