The RUC COVID-19 Update

The advice we are currently getting from the ACT and Federal Governments is that venues and clubs such as the RUC should remain open, but patrons and staff should exercise caution and monitor the situation as it changes.

The Club will be closed only at the direction of a regulatory authority or by resolution from the Club’s Board of Directors.

The banning of organised events with crowds of over 500 people has caused the suspension of Super Rugby and the immediate future of the NRL and AFL are unclear. As it currently stands, the John I Dent Cup will still be starting in just under two weeks.

We remain dedicated to providing sports fans in Canberra the best possible viewing experience and will work hard to ensure we can offer a safe and comfortable environment at the RUC.

There are no current restrictions on Australians participating in or attending local sports and bowling is a great non-contact and hygienic way to stay active. However, in any team environment there will be increased proximity and duration of physical contact that can facilitate the transmission of respiratory and gastrointestinal pathogens. We kindly encourage anyone concerned about their health to exercise extra caution when bowling. Read more

Can’t make it to Buenos Aires to cheer our boys on in person? Don’t worry, neither can we… because we are throwing a semi-final party to watch the game right here in Turner.

We are opening early and serving up breakfast and drink specials so you can join us and watch the semi-final big screen with stadium sound.

The RUC will open at 8am on Saturday 29th June for a 9.05am kick off.

  • Deluxe egg and bacon roll – $10
  • Smashed avocado on toast with bacon, fetta and salsa – $14

CNBC ACT Bowls Rookie Champion

Last week’s ACT Rookie women’s event was won by one of our well-known bowlers and “leading lawndies”, Gina Dowley… and what an absolute talent she is. Our Secretary Manager Jeremy mentioned that he saw some of her bowling and “was glad that [he] didn’t play against her!” We’ve also been told by several sources that after he left, her bowling got even better.

Well done Gina! We’re sure all the Canberra North members join us in singing your praises when it comes to not only being a star “Rookie”, but for also being a true “high-bowler” and shining member of the women’s division.

A big shout out to all our members who gave up time to assist with the running of the Rookie Singles. Kate Schipp and our umpires certainly put in a big weekend, and Terry and Joseph Doyle did a great job of having the two greens prepared and running well for the start of each day.

The day simply wouldn’t have rolled as smoothly as it did, without all the dedicated people who volunteered to mark the day. We’re a lucky club to have members who constantly put up their hands to assist whenever they can.
