RUC SUPPORTS BELCONNEN UNITED SHARKS SENIORS

Belconnen United Sharks RLFC was established in 2016, being formerly, Belconnen United Scholars. The Sharks focus on creating a family orientated community club that coaches, managers, staff and members can come and experience local Rugby League. To congregate, network and build a great culture. The Sharks provide a club that Junior Sharks can aspire to join and continue their footy experience in a safe, friendly and knowledgeable environment. In the past 3 years, the club has recruited experienced coaches and players, which has attracted like-minded people to continue a strong, successful club for their future players.

The club currently has 3 Grades, Ladies League Tag, Reserve Grade and 1st Grade. Although currently missing a 19’s team, the Junior Sharkies are working hard and have a great bunch of talented Kids on their way! The small, but dedicated, group of volunteers make up a committee and support staff. These people are incredibly generous with their time, with each providing a different and invaluable skill set.

The RUC is a great supporter of the Sharks and together, they have built not just a commercial relationship, but a personal one as well. The RUC has hosted some great club functions, like a Hypnotist evening (hilarious!) Karaoke and the Shark’s aftergame Presentations. The club has a Phantom Race day/evening coming up on the 1st June, they are really looking forward to.

If you would like to become involved with their great club as a player, volunteer or even just a spectator, you can contact them on Facebook or email committee@belconnensharks.com.au

UGG BOOT BOWLS ARE BACK!

It’s official, winter is well and truly coming! Canberra has finally been hit with that cold front we all know too well. So it’s time to dust off those UGG boots and head down to the greens at Turner for a game of our favourite winter past time, UGG Boot Bowls.

Here are our top four reasons why we think UGG Boot Bowls should be your favourite winter past time too.

  1. Embrace the Canberra climate. One of the best parts of our city is that we get all four seasons. Grab a beanie, a puffy jacket and your UGGs and make the most of our city’s coldest season by staying cosy and comfy out on the greens.
  2. Make a day of it. Grab a few of your best mates, grab some drinks and some of our delicious food and spend a day catching up and making memories (without feeling the least bit chilly).
  3. Keep winter fun. It might sound like a good idea to stay indoors, but we can promise you that you’ll have way more fun being active outdoors than you will be hibernating inside.
  4. Warm your insides too. Keeping rugged up on the outside is one way to keep the heat in. The other? A cheeky glass of red or a mulled cider or wine. You really can’t go wrong.

So, join us for a sunny day on the greens while keeping toasty warm and make the most of spending a little time outdoors, soaking up that vitamin D!

Book your day on the greens now.

RUC supports The Belconnen United Sharks

The team in the Black, White and Blue: the Belconnen United Sharks JRLFC commence their 32nd year in the local league competition in 2019. While they may not be the biggest club in the comp, they are well-known as the family club. They have families who have been with them for many years, but more importantly, the club feels like a family. They’ve got committed volunteers from all teams involved in the planning and running of the club and, for the duration of the winter months, all become part of the Sharkies family.

During the year they hold a Club Training Night, an evening co-hosted by the Belconnen United Sharks Seniors, where kids from 6-15 are placed into mixed age groups so that they might learn new skills, train with more knowledgeable club mates, have a laugh with agility tests and size themselves up with the tackling bags.

As a sponsor for the Sharks, the RUC is the preferred home game hospitality venue for the club for the last two years and has been co-hosting their yearly Anzac Day Two-up game. We also run an annual Trivia Night with the Sharks and consider them a valued partner in our community.

If you have any enquiries for the club, be it a child interested in playing rugby league, or if you would like to get involved as a coach or volunteer, get in touch by emailing belconennunitedsharks@gmail.com or by finding them on Facebook.

Introducing Matt & Nick

Welcome to our new kitchen team, Matt and Nick, who work really hard dishing out your fave meals.

Matt’s background has brought him to us with 20 years chef experience from pubs to two Michelin Star restaurants. And Nick has extensive experience working in sports clubs and gastropubs. Together they’re out to blow the minds of all who dine at the RUC, aiming to provide not just a good meal, but a dining experience. Their goal is to lower wait times without compromising the quality of the meals.

Both are big fans of music, with Nick being a supporter of Australian bands, while Matt enjoys listening to anything from The Beatles to Slipknot. Matt’s spare time is spent on the farm, motorbike riding and being out in the Aussie sunshine. They both relish in the finer things in life – good food, a good beer (or two), mates and music. They’re a stellar addition to the RUC team and we’re stoked to have them.
